PRIMARY SCHOOL GOVERNOR OPPORTUNITIES

We need you!

A diverse governing board is a stronger board, reflecting school communities and the wider country. In 2020, over 30% of our volunteers were from BAME backgrounds, and over 65% were under 45, not to mention having diverse skills, life experiences, and perspectives.

Could you volunteer as a school governor and join one of our Local Academy Committees?

👉We’re always interested in hearing from people who may want to get involved in the strategic element of education and contribute to our academies' success as a governor.

👉This is a varied and interesting role where you can bring your professional knowledge, analytical mind, diplomacy and problem-solving skills to the board (known as a Local Academy Committee).

👉You’ll have the opportunity to train and learn new skills in governance. It’s a great way to develop your professional responsibilities and is highly valued by many employers

What does a Governor Do?

👉 All Governors contribute to strategic discussions about the academy's vision and ethos, priorities, targets, pupil performance and community engagement. You will decide matters based on the information and discussions presented and according to your own principles and understanding.

👉 Governors also hold Senior Leaders to account through rigorous monitoring, support and challenge.

Who can apply?

👉 Anyone over the age of 18.

👉 You will need to commit to attending approximately six meetings a year, usually in the evenings. You should also be prepared to do some research and reading in preparation for those meetings, and be prepared to engage with school monitoring visits.
