Becoming an INMAT Trustee

Our trust is governed by a board of non-executive directors who are also trustees. The trust is a company limited by guarantee and an exempt charity and receives funding from the state to run its academies.

From time to time we have capacity for additional trustees who want to make a difference to the lives of children, educational staff and the local community.   Trustees are recruited to skills depending on what is required at board level at any given time.

Trustees meet approximately six times a year as a board; they also sit on one or more committees of the board which meet about three times a year.  These meetings generally take place in term time.

Trustees sit for a term of four years and the board is supported by the Trust Governance Lead.   Further training opportunities and support for the role is provided through the National Governance Association and external providers.

It is important that our trustees follow the Nolan Principles of Public Life and are aware of the principles of ethical leadership.

Trustees should be confident communicating ideas and requirements; they also need to be good listeners and be solutions focused people.

You do not necessarily need to have any experience in the education sector, although if you have been involved in school governance that will prove useful.  You do need to be interested in the education sector and interested in children and young people and the ways in which education can change lives.

If this is something that interests you please email governance@inmat.org.uk or call the office on 01604 434600.

We look forward to hearing from you.
